Since 2003, ICCROM has collaborated with the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) and the Netherlands Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) on the development and implementation of an international course on “Reducing Risks to Collections and Cultural Heritage”. Six courses have been implemented to date.

In 2012-2013, ICCROM and its partners will harvest and disseminate the lessons learned from these courses. An international seminar, or if funds are available, a conference will be organized on the theme of risk management. Communications will include case studies by participants and partners, illustrating the application of the methodology and related tools in a variety of contexts, for one or more risks. Of particular interest will be examples of risk assessment of complex ensembles, such as archaeological sites, contemporary collections, or historic houses, as well as studies of specific risks, such as those related to natural disasters, global warming, or cultural tourism. The seminar will also include debates on research gaps and strategic orientations for further training and dissemination.
