Agreement signed between ICCROM and SUPSI

A recommendation on collections in storage

On 31 January 2017, ICCROM’s Director-General, Stefano De Caro, signed an agreement with the Swiss university programme SUPSI (Scuola universitaria professionale della Svizzera italiana, or University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Italian Switzerland). Signing the agreement on behalf of SUPSI were its Chairman of the Board, Alberto Petruzzella, and the Director of SUPSI, Franco Gervasoni.

The agreement has the specific goal of forging a partnership between ICCROM and SUPSI, aimed at making use of each other’s expertise and facilities for conducting educational activities and research, not only in the field of conservation and restoration, but also for preventive conservation and techniques for managing museum collections. The Fifth International Course on First Aid to Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis Starts

first_aid_1“I would like to prepare for recovery and reconstruction of Mosul’s cultural heritage,” says Layla Salih, an Iraqi participant of the Fifth International Course on First Aid to Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis (FAC) which opened today at the Smithsonian Castle, Washington DC, USA.  Offered within the framework of ICCROM’s multi-partner programme on Disaster Risk Management, the FAC course is aimed at enhancing national, regional and local capacities for protecting cultural heritage during complex and protracted crises. Marie LavandierFollowing the 29th General Assembly of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), delegates of Member States elected the new members to serve on ICCROM’s Council for the period 2015 – 2019. The members of ICCROM’s Council are elected from among the most qualified experts in the conservation-restoration field worldwide.

Visitors from Switzerland

Three visitors from Switzerland visited ICCROMOn 10 February the Director-General received the visit of Prof Van Haste, archaeologist; Mr Andrea Bignasca, Director of the Museum of Antiquities in Basel; and Mr Esau Dozio, Curator of the Museum of Antiquities, Basel.
