Description: The Seminar will review the evident trends in Europe towards the partnerships that are being created by the public and private sector organizations in the management of cultural heritage assets, such as primarily issues related to the privatisation of conservation. This trend has been evident in North America and Western Europe for some time, but is apparent also in other parts of the world. It has a number of implications with respect to Governments’ responsibilities towards heritage conservation, with respect to the professional training and employment of conservators and with respect to fundamental issues such as documentation and maintenance work
Theme: Major topics that will be addressed include: - Analysis of the current situation: successful models of Private-Public Partnership in Conservation and Site Management (case studies) - Discussion on issues raised in both Private and C&S Management (Economic Aspects of Conservation, Tourism and Private Sector Involvement, Quality control of outsourced conservation works, Conservation and Conservation Science as assets for European competitiveness in the international market, Technology Transfer in Conservation)
- Implication of Private-Public Partnership in C&S Management (Legal, ethical, professional implications of privatization in conservation and cultural heritage management, Public-Private Interrelations, Aspects of training and teaching - employment prospects for conservators).
During the second day of the seminar, round table discussions focusing on these main topics will provide opportunities for exchange between the invited lecturers and the workshop participants.
