Aim
The field project will aim to provide didactic and practical tools and skills for 16 professionals from Southeast Asia to implement concrete improvements in their home institutions. It will also aim to make concrete improvements in the conservation conditions of the National Museum of Vietnamese History (NMVH), leading to durable and positive change in the long-term safeguarding of the collections in the museum.
Methodology
The field project is designed as a training activity with a strong practical, on-site component in the storage area of the NMVH. Under the guidance of the resource persons, participants will analyse the mission of the hosting museum and assess the needs of the collection - taking into consideration conservation conditions, environment, context and use. Participants will formulate long-term strategies to improve conservation conditions, including disaster preparedness. Special attention will be given to enhancing the teamwork, communication, didactic and organizational skills of the participants. Modules will consist of teaching sessions, practical sessions, study visits and an open house event.
Participants
Up to 16 professionals working in heritage institutions in Southeast Asia (directors, curators, conservators, conservation scientists, collections care staff), directly involved with the daily care and management of collections. Participants will be from Viet Nam (6) and other participating countries in the CollAsia 2010 programme: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor-Leste (10). At least 3 years of working experience will be required. Former participants in CollAsia 2010 international courses are encouraged to apply, especially persons with an interest in implementing training initiatives and echo activities.
