CollAsia 2010: Developing appropriate skills in conservation

Aim
The course aims at improving the capacity of professionals working with Southeast Asian collections to participate and take the lead in designing and implementing educational activities on an institutional, national and international level.  The course will examine the specificity of the Southeast Asian cultural contexts and learning and teaching traditions for devising effective training activities. Also, the course will discuss diverse teaching planning tools, and communication strategies in general keeping in mind the diversity of potential publics. Practical sessions will include both preparation and practicing training sessions and practicing presentation skills. Special emphasis will be placed on the importance of networking for professional growth and institutional collaboration, culminating in participation in the 15th Triennial Conference of the ICOM-CC in New Delhi at the final phase of the course.

Methodology
The workshop will consist of interactive, participatory sessions, both theoretical and practical. Study visits will include joint working sessions with the staff of relevant heritage and educational institutions in India. Participation in the 15th Triennial Conference of ICOM-CC, the largest international gathering of conservation professionals, will form an integral part of the course programme.

Participants
Twenty two heritage professionals working with Southeast Asian heritage collections. At least three years of working experience will be required. Applications from professionals actively engaged in the organization or delivery of training activities will be especially encouraged.

Team
Conservation and heritage education specialists from the networks of the organising institutions.

Scholarship
Scholarships covering round-trip travel, accommodation and meals in New Delhi during the course will be available.
