Background
There is a growing demand for improving the ongoing planning and management approaches to World Heritage properties with a view of protecting the Outstanding Universal Value for which they have been inscribed on the World Heritage List. At the same time, natural and manmade disasters have become a critical factor that needs urgent attention and integration into planning processes. The World Heritage Committee has drawn the attention of State Parties to this issue through its strategic directions for Reducing Risks from Disasters.
ICCROM has already conducted several courses in the other world regions to help build professional capacity for the planning and management of World Heritage sites and the development of strategies for reducing risks from disasters as an integral part of this process. This course is organized by ICCROM and INAH with funding from the World Heritage Committee and INAH. It intends to provide benefits to conservation professionals involved in planning and management of World Heritage Properties in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
Objectives
- To discuss the issues related to managing World Heritage sites, including the issues of disasters and climate change;
