CEN (European Committee for Standardization)
On 12 May, ICCROM hosted a meeting of CEN (European Committee for Standardization), Technical Committee for the Conservation of Cultural Property (CEN/TC 346), Working Group 2: 'Materials constituting the artifacts'.
The objective of the CEN/TC346 is to establish standards which will help conservation professionals have a common approach for restoration and conservation work. The aim is to ensure that European experts can exchange information on scientific tests, analysis and methodology in the field of cultural heritage.
Prof Vasilike Argyropoulos led the Working Group 2 (WG2) meeting which was attended by eleven delegates from seven European Member States.
Some of the issues discussed were historical mortars, investigation techniques, analysis of stone, investigation of biodeteriogens, surveying metals collections, as well as more general themes such as reflections on the scope of WG2, and selection of terms and defenition of a common terminology.
