ATHAR course concludes in Syria
22 December. The ICCROM-ALECSO course on 'Documentation and Management of Heritage Sites in the Arab Region' concluded on 12 December, 2006 at Bosra, Syria with an official closing ceremony under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Culture, Dr. Riyadh Na'ssan Agha who was represented by Dr. Faisal Kulthoum, Governor of Dara'a. At the closing ceremony participants presented their conclusions to national and local authorities and proposed strategies aimed at the conservation of the site of Bosra, Syria. They compared current conditions in Bosra with those at Umm Qais, Jordan, where the first part of the course had been held, and highlighted the necessity of conserving those values that are primarily relevant to Bosra's significant living heritage assets.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to course participants in the presence of Dr. Bassam Jamous, Director of Antiquities and Museums of Syria and Zaki Aslan, Project Manager, ATHAR Programme, ICCROM.
