SOIMA 2007: Safeguarding Sound and Image Collections

13 August. The first week of the course on Safeguarding Sound and Image Collections (SOIMA 2007) introduced the history, meaning and use of audio visual collections.
The objective was to provide a theoretical framework for collecting, handling, documenting, and conserving such collections. In particular, topics discussed were 'Terms and concepts', 'Why do we collect?', 'Selection and de-selection', 'Ethics and Philosophy'.
At the end of the week, the participants and the resource team exchanged views at a mini-conference on 'Sound and Image Collections: Current Challenges and Strategies for their Conservation and Use'.
Member States represented: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Georgia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Senegal, United States, Venezuela, Zambia and Zimbabwe
