11 October. The Course on Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage in the Asia - Pacific Region 2007: Preservation and Restoration of Wooden Structures was held at Cultural Heritage Protection Cooperation Office, Asia/Pacific
Cultural Center for UNESCO (ACCU Nara Office).
The month long course consisted of formal lectures on introduction to wooden architecture in Japan and Asia, survey methods, approaches to conservation and maintenance, design and implementation of conservation projects, management and utilization of wooden structures, and risk preparedness for cultural heritage.
Participants had the opportunity to attend practical training and on site lectures at local historic wooden structure conservation project sites.
The course also included a three-day study tour to visit historic wooden structures and towns.
Participants were exposed to some of the oldest and finest wooden architecture which are on the World Heritage List in Nara area.
They will make presentations on specific conservation of wooden heritage projects in their countries, share their experiences and discuss issues of common interest.
Member States represented: Cambodia, Iran, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippine, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam
