Contacts with Japan

5 January. On a recent visit to Japan, the Director-General of ICCROM, Mounir Bouchenaki, met with the President of Sophia University, Prof Ishizawa is an expert in Khmer archaeology and Head of one of the Japanese missions to Cambodia for the preservation of Angkor.

The Director-General was received by Mr Suzuki, Director General of the National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Tokyo, and by Mr Shigeo Aoki, Director of the Japan Center for International Cooperation in Conservation (JCICC).

He gave a lecture during the session devoted to 'International Cooperation in Conservation of Cultural Heritage and the Roles of the International Community'. He was introduced by Prof Hirayama, as President of the JCICC. Among the participants, there were four Iraqi experts from the National Museum of Baghdad and from Mosul.

The Director-General was received at the Sumitomo Foundation, by Mr Mutsuo Ishikawa, Executive Director and Mr Kiyotaka Sato, Programme Officer.

The Director-General met Mr Tsuchiya Sadayoki, Director General of the Agency for Cultural Affairs during the meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
