1 October. On 29 September, the Director-General of ICCROM participated as a keynote speaker at the seminar on 'Le Nuove Convenzione UNESCO' held at the National Library, Rome. The seminar was held under the chairmanship of the Vice Minister of Culture, Mrs Danielle Mazzonis.

Athens, Greece
1 October. On 28 September, the Director-General of ICCROM participated in the one-day conference on 'World Heritage and Heritage Routes: new orientations' in Athens. The conference was organized by the Greek Ministry of Culture. The Director-General met with Christos Zachopoulos, Secretary General, Ministry of Culture, Greece; Ambassador Giorgos Anastasopoulos, President of the General Conference of UNESCO; Mrs Maria Ekaterini Papachristopoulou-Tzitzikosta, Secretary General, UNESCO National Commission, Greece; Mrs Marianna Vardinoyannis, Goodwill Ambassador, UNESCO; Ambassador Alexandros Rallis, Director of the Office of Cooperation with International Organizations; Mrs Vivi Vassilopoulou, Director General of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage; Mrs Elena Korka, Director of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of Greece

Cyrene and Leptis Magna, Libya
18 September. On 9 September, the Director-General of ICCROM was invited to the launch of a conservation and development project in Cyrene, Libya.
He met the patron of the project, Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi. Also present were: Francesco Bandarin, Director of World Heritage Centre; Giuma el Anag, Director of Antiquities of Libya; and Professors Nicola Luni and Mario Bonacasa, specialists in the heritage of Libya.
The Director-General also visited the site of Leptis Magna and the old city of Tripoli.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
18 September. On 4 September, the Director-General of ICCROM was invited to the 2007 Aga Khan Award for Architecture ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His Highness the Aga Khan announced the nine recipients of the 2007 Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
Founded in 1977, the Award marked its 30th anniversary this year, and the completion of the 10th cycle of the programme.
The Director-General of ICCROM met with His Highness the Aga Khan, as well as Luis Monreal, Director-General of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC). During this visit in Kuala Lumpur he met several officials from Malaysia and other countries, including Hon Suleiman R. Shakombo, the Minister of State for National Heritage of Kenya, Dr Idle O. Farah, Director General of the National Museums of Kenya, and Aziz Bhaloo, representative of Aga Khan in Kenya. |
