26 November. On 25 - 26 November, the Director-General of ICCROM, was invited to participate in the annual meeting of Ministers of Culture from the Arab States. The meeting was organized jointly by the Algerian Ministry of Culture and ALECSO.

He met the Minister of Culture of Algeria Mrs Khalida Toumi, and Dr Mahieddine Amimour, former Minister of Culture of Algeria. He also met the Minister of Culture of Egypt, Mr Farouk Hosni.

During the meeting, Mr Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities and Director of the Giza Pyramids Excavation, Egypt; Mr Azedine Beschaouch, former Director General of the Institut National du Patrimoine of Tunisia; and Mr Mounir Bouchenaki, were awarded the Algerian Gold Medal for Culture for their contribution to heritage preservation.

21 November. On 21 November, the Director-General of ICCROM, participated to the Ordinary Session of the UNESCO-BRESCE Scientific Council for a one-day meeting. Activities undertaken by the Office under the MOU between Italy and UNESCO were discussed. Recommendations on proposed actions for 2008 were prepared for the Steering Committee.

15 November. On 15 November, the Director-General of ICCROM, attended the inauguration of the Mediterranean Exchange of Arcaheological Tourism. Present were the Vice Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization, Taleb Rifai; the Secretary General of Tourism of the Lybian Araba Jamahiria, Ammar Mabrouk El Tayef; the President of the Province of Salerno, Angelo Villani; the Mayor of Capaccio-Paestum, Pasquale Marino; the Director of the Exchange, Ugo Picarelli; the Counselor for Tourism of the Province of Salerno, Ciro Castaldo.

Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth Stockholm, Sweden

13 November. On 13 November, at the invitation of the National Heritage Board of Sweden, the Director-General of ICCROM, was one of the keynote speakers at the Autumn National Conference on Cultural Heritage. Present were the Minister of Culture of Sweden, Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, and more than 500 participants from Sweden and some Nordic countries involved in the field of cultural heritage.

Jacques Diouf FAO, Rome, Italy

2 November. On 2 November, the Director-General of ICCROM was received by the Director-General Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Dr Jacques Diouf. Discussions focussed on the hosting by FAO of the General Assembly (7 to 9 November 2007). The Director-General of ICCROM expressed his gratitude for the support and assistance of FAO with this event, which is receiving the High Patronage of the President of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano.

2 November. On 30 October, the Director-General of ICCROM was received by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture of Italy, Mr Giuseppe Proietti. Discussions focussed on the Italian contribution towards the new premises of ICCROM and points to be discussed at the General Assembly of ICCROM (7 and 9 November 2007).
