Meeting Florence

 

ICCROM participates in a conference on values and criteria in heritage conservation in Florence

13 March. An international conference on Values and Criteria in Heritage Conservation was held in Florence, Italy, from 1-4 March. It was jointly organized by ICCROM, the ICOMOS International Committee on Theory and Philosophy of Conservation and Restoration, and the Foundation Romualdo Del Bianco. The meeting was held under the patronage of the Italian National Commission of UNESCO, and in cooperation with ICOMOS Italia, the Collegio degli Ingegneri della Toscana, and the Comune di Firenze - Direzione Cultura Patrimonio Modiale UNESCO.

Themes covered during the meeting included heritage values in different religious-cultural traditions, the evolution of the concepts of values and criteria, and their application in classifications systems for heritage, the concept of authenticity, the concept of Outstanding Universal Value and World Heritage Crieria, and the Dilemma of Values of post-totalitarian heritage.

Participants at the meeting came from approximately twenty countries. Attending on behalf of ICCROM were the Director General, Mounir Bouchenaki, Joseph King (Unit Director), and Gamini Wijesuriya (Project Manager). Three former Directors-General of ICCROM were also present:
Andrzej Tomaszewski (President of the ICOMOS Theory Committee), Marc Laenen, and Nicholas Stanley-Price.
