12 April. At the invitation of the Governor of Aleppo, Dr Tamer Al-Hajjah, the Director General of ICCROM, Mounir Bouchenaki, participated in a two-day mission (4-5 April) to discuss conservation issues related to the World Heritage Site of the Citadel of Aleppo.

Representatives of the Old City of Aleppo Office, the Department of Antiquities and Museums of Syria, the Union of Architects and Engineers of Syria, the GTZ (German Technical Cooperation) and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture were also present during the meetings and site visits.

Recommendations were unanimously adopted for dismantling the recently built concrete pilars poured in the moat of the Aleppo Citadel and for reducing car traffic in this historic area.
