25th General Assembly of ICCROM opens

7 November. The twenty-fifth General Assembly of ICCROM opened today in Rome. The event is being held at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The General Asembly is being held under the Patronage of the President of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano. The inauguration was attended by:

  • Ms Anneli Randla, Temporary President of the General Assembly
  • Ms Maariapa Garavaglia, Vice Mayor, City of Rome
  • Mr Ugo Intini, Vice Minister, Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs
  • Ms Danielle Mazzonis, Undersecretary, Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities
  • Mr Pietro Folena, President of the VII Commission (Culture, Science and Education), Italian Chamber of Deputies
  • Ms Tana De Zulueta, Vice President of the III Commission (Foreign and Communitarian Affairs), Italian Chamber of Deputies
  • Mr Louis Godart, Counsellor of the President of the Republic of Italy for the conservation of cultural heritage
  • Mr Francesco Bandarin, Director, World Heritage Centre, UNESCO
  • Mr Mounir Bouchenaki, Director-General, ICCROM
  • Hervé Lejeune, Chef de Cabinet, representing the Director General of FAO

In addition, delegations from 89 of ICCROM’s Member States are attending the three-day event, together with observers from 39 partner institutions. They will be listening to reports on the implementation of 2006-7 programme, discussing the progamme for the next two years, and electing new members to ICCROM’s Council.
