Rome, 13 – 15 May 2008
21 May.
ICCROM hosted a meeting on the conservation of mosaics in the Mediterranean region in order to understand current needs and to develop a regional strategy.
The meeting was organized in partnership with the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM), and ICCROM.
Participants discussed their experiences dealing with the conservation of mosaics, including the problems encountered and solutions adopted.
The group visited Ostia Antica and saw how conservation issues are resolved in-situ. Following this visit, four working groups were convened on: training for technicians and conservators on in situ conservation; training for site managers and inspectors; conservation of lifted mosaics and storage; and issues of organization and policies.
