AFRICA 2009: Impact Assessment and Heritage Course in Sudan

6 November. On 20 October 2008, the Africa 2009 technical course on ‘Impact assessment as a tool for heritage management’ started in Merowe, Sudan.
Sixteen participants from nine African countries are taking part in this course, which focuses on hands-on practical exercises geared towards developing competence in impact assessment studies, especially at sites threatened by development.
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of the Governor of Merowe District, Mr Jafar Mohammed Bade, who thanked Africa 2009 and the financial partners for choosing Sudan as the location for the course and especially Merowe where one of the largest dams in Africa is under construction.
The three-weeks course is organized in collaboration with the Centre for Heritage Development in Africa (CHDA) and theNational Corporation for Antiquities and Museums (NCAM) of Sudan.
