Round table on Angkor, Rome, Italy

21 May. On 20 May, the Director-General participated in a round table on Angkor: la sfida del tempo which was held at the Ara Pacis Museum.

Round table participants were: Mounir Bouchenaki, Director-General, ICCROM; Giuseppe Proietti, Secretary General, Italian Ministry of Culture; Giorgio Croci, Professor, Universitá La Sapienza; and Azzedine Beschaouch, Scientific Consultant, ICCROM. It was moderated by Martine Boiteux, Vice President, Association des Amis d'Angkor.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

13 May. On 5 and 6 May, the Director-General visited Bosnia and Herzegovina to discuss the structural issues of the reconstructed Mostar bridge, following the earthquake of November 2007.

Upon arrival he met H.E. Ambassador Mrs Zeljana Zovko; Mr Ljubo Bešlić, Mayor of the City of Mostar, the President of the City Council, Mr Murat Coric; and Mr Bramimir Karić, Advisor to the Mayor.

He was also invited to hold a press conference in Mostar in the presence of the Mayor and the President of the City Council.

During his stay in Bosnia he visited the Pocitelj, site of the indicative list of the World Heritage; Medjugorje, site of the apparition of the Virgin Mary; a tekye (Mosque/Mausoleum) of the Ottoman period in Blagaj; and, the Orthodox Church of Mostar which was destroyed during the conflict.
