| Fellow at ICCROM
21 April. Prof. Virginia Costa, a metals conservation scientist from Brazil, is undertaking a three-month fellowship, from April to June 2009.
Virginia holds a metallurgy engineer degree and PhD on surface electrochemistry from the Technischen Universität Berlin (TU-Berlin), Germany. As professor at the Federal University in Porto Alegre, Brazil, she specialized in corrosion and protection of metals. She has been applying her scientific and technical background giving lectures on metals conservation both in Brazil and abroad.
She is the author of several articles and has organized numerous courses on the use of electrochemistry and metallography for metals analysis and conservation.
At present, she is working as consultant in different research projects in France, in collaboration with Conservare and Laboratoire de Recherche des Monuments Historiques (LRMH), as well as lecturer at the Institut National du Patrimoine (INP).
During her stay, she will carry out a study on the identification of metallic artefacts using an electrochemical technique: comparative evaluation of accessible analytical techniques.
