5 October. From 26 - 30 September, the Director-General visited Kenya. He first visited CHDA where he met with AFRICA 2009 Regional Course participants. He then participated in the AFRICA 2009 11th Director's Seminar.

This seminar marked not only the end of the 11th Regional Course of AFRICA 2009 on the conservation and management of immovable cultural heritage in sub-Saharan Africa but also the formal conclusion of the Africa 2009 programme. The Director-General was invited to take part in a tree planting ceremony to commemorate this important event.

While in Mombasa, he visited the Fort Jesus Site and Museum; the recently restored Leven House which was carried out as a AFRICA 2009 project. He also met Dr Idle Farah, Director-General of National Museums of Kenya and at the Office of the Vice President, Ministry of State for National Heritage and Culture, he met the Hon. William Ole Ntimama, EGH, MP, Minister of Culture of Kenya.

5 October. On 24 September, the Director-General participated in the launching of the first international UNESCO Forum at Villa Reale, Monza, Italy.

He also acted as moderator at the ceremony in which Mr Koïchiro Matsuura Director-General, UNESCO, received the Euro-Visioni Prize 2009
