Sid-Ahmed Baghli 1936 - 2009
24 February. Mr Sid-Ahmed Baghli, Assistant Director of Fine Arts at the Algerian Ministry of Information and Culture, has died in Paris at age 72. An important advocate for heritage conservation, he held the following positions: Director, Société Nationale d'Editions et de Diffusion (SNED); Cabinet Chief of the Ministry of Culture; Cultural Counselor of the Permanent Delegation of Algeria to UNESCO; Member of the Executive Committee of ICOM; Honorary Member of ICOM.
Mr Baghli, a museums specialist, co-authored the publication on the history of ICOM prepared on the occasion of ICOM’s 60th anniversary. He was the Algerian delegate at several ICCROM General Assemblies, and also collaborated closely with ICCROM as a lecturer in the courses on architectural conservation (ITARC) and the EuroMED project.
The Director General and all the staff of ICCROM would like to present their most sincere condolences to his family and in particular to his colleagues at ICOM and UNESCO.
