Obituary
István Éri 1929 - 2009
18 November. It is with great sorrow that ICCROM has learned of the death of a long-time friend, Istvan Éri of Hungary, at the age of 80 years.
István Eri was a well-known Hungarian archaeologist and historian, and one of the leading personalities in the field of museology in his country. In addition to archaeological work, he established the Conservation and Methodological Centre of Museums, which became internationally renowned under his management.
He was also very instrumental in bringing together conservation scientists from Eastern and Western countries through a forum
he created while organizing International Restorer Seminars in Hungary.
István Eri had close contacts with ICCROM over the years. His latest collaboration and one of his last works, was the editing of 'Conserving Textiles: studies in honour of Ágnes Timár-Balázsy' in Hungarian, which was published this year in English by ICCROM.
The Director General and the staff of ICCROM would like to extend their
condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
