Helping Haiti

27 January. In response to the earthquake in Haiti on 12 January some cultural heritage organizations are setting up initiatives for the reconstruction of damaged heritage.  ICCROM in collaboration with other institutions is aiming to develop a long-term strategy for the salvage and recovery of Haiti’s cultural heritage and identity.

At present, basic humanitarian aid and the rebuilding of functioning infrastructure is the priority, however, as the situation becomes more stable, heritage recovery will become an increasingly important issue.

As we become aware of them, we are listing institutions that are mobilizing efforts and raising funds to this end. Please check back frequently.

    The Association of National Committees of the Blue Shield (ANCBS) is advertising for volunteers.

  • Emergency Architects
    A United Nations recognized humanitarian organization that aims to aid populations in disaster-stricken areas. Visit their website for more information about their efforts in Haiti.
  • Architecture for Humanity
    Architecture for Humanity is a nonprofit design services firm founded in 1999. We are building a more sustainable future through the power of professional design. It is based in the United States.
  • Music For Relief
    In partnership with the UN Foundation's Central Emergency Response Fund, Habitat for Humanity and Dave Matthews Band's BAMA Works Haitian relief effort, Music for Relief is working to provide immediate aid with food, water, and emergency medical supplies, and long-term sustainable housing solutions for the people affected by this catastrophic natural disaster.
