Course on Management and Monitoring of World Heritage Sites with special reference to China
7 - 18 March 2011

22 March. The course on Management and Monitoring of World Heritage Sites with Special Reference to China took place from 7-18 March 2011 at the UNESCO World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for Asia and Pacific Region (WHITRAP) Suzhou Centre, located in the Classical Gardens of Suzhou, China. Twenty-two participants, 16 of which were from China, participated in the course.

The course was inaugurated by the Deputy Director of the Human Resource Department of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH). Others who spoke at the opening were: Mr Wang Damin, Director of the Expert and Training Department, SACH; Mr Liu Jinshen, Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Province Administrative Bureau of Cultural Relics; Mr Tang Yulin, Director of the Suzhou Municipal Administrative Bureau of Cultural Relics; Mr Yang Hui, Deputy Director of the Suzhou Garden and Landscape Administration Bureau; Dr Gamini Wijesuriya, Project Manager of the Sites Unit at ICCROM; and Ms Rachael Egerton, who spoke on behalf of participants.

The two weeks course was jointly organized by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH), China (which also provided the funding), the Chinese Academy for Cultural Heritage (CACH), and ICCROM, with the support of the Suzhou Municipal Administrative Bureau of Cultural Relics, Suzhou Garden and Landscape Administration Bureau, and the WHITRAP Suzhou Centre.

Member States represented: Armenia, China, Poland, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.
