On 12 October, the Director-General, Mounir Bouchenaki participated in an international meeting on archaeological heritage called Diplomacy - Cooperazione Internazionale Scoperte e Conservazione del Patrimonio Archeologico. The meeting was held at the Ecole française in Rome and was attended by:

• Prof Louis Godart, Advisor on cultural heritage conservation to the Italian President of the Republic
• Mons. Francesco Follo, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to UNESCO
• Prof Frank Braemer, Director of Research at the Centre national de la recherche scientifique, France
• Prof Claudio Mocchegiani Carpano, professor of underwater archaeology at the Università degli Studi Suor Orsola Benincasa, and honorary inspector of underwater archaeology for the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities
• Prof Marilina Betrò, professor of Egyptology at the University of Pisa
• Prof Sergio Ribichini, Research Director, Institute for the Study of Civilization Italy and the Ancient Mediterranean Co-Head of Mission Althiburos, Tunisia
• Prof Luisa Musso Professor of Archaeology and Art History, University of Rome 3, head of the archaeological mission in Tripoli and Leptis Magna, Libya

On 10 October, the Director-General, Mounir Bouchenaki, participated in a meeting organized within the framework of the International Masters Programme, University Cooperation for Peace and Development. It was hosted at the Sapienza University of Rome.

From 5-8 October the Director-General visited Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation. During the mission he attended the official opening of the academic year at the Kazan Federal University. While on mission, he met with:

• Mr Grigory Ordzhonikidze, Secretary General of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO
• Mr Ilchate Gafourov, Rector of the Kazan Federal University
• Mr Mintimer Charipovitch Chaïmiev, First President of the Republic of Tatarstan
• Mr Alexander Chkourko, Director of the State Historical Museum in Moscow
• Mr Raphael Valeev, Vice Rector of the Kazan Federal University, and
• Mr Igor Makovetzkiy, President of ICOMOS Russia.

The mission also included a visit to the Island of Sivyagesk to visit the restoration of monastaries there, and a seminar on management of World Heritage Sites in Russia, which was also attended by vice Minister Zilia Valeeva.

On 4 October the Director-Gneral attended the Official opening of the academic year of the Università degli Studi di Ferrara, Italy. While there he met with Professor Livio Zerbini from university.

From 3-9 October the Director-General, Mounir Bouchenaki attended Second World Landlside Forum, organized at the FAO in Rome.
