| ICCROM Welcomes Dr Alison Heritage
26 January. Following the international vacancy announcement for the position of Conservation Research Specialist, ICCROM has appointed a new staff member, Dr Alison Heritage from the United Kingdom. She will take up her duties as of 1 April 2011.
Dr Alison Heritage is a conservation scientist and wall paintings conservator with over 15 years of experience in conservation research. She holds a PhD from University College London with a specialization in the salt weathering of wall paintings and stone materials. She also has two postgraduate degrees in wall paintings conservation from the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London. Prior to this she trained as a wall paintings conservator at Canterbury Cathedral, United Kingdom after graduating with a BSc from Edinburgh University in Environmental Chemistry.
Dr Heritage is an Accredited Conservator Restorer (Institute of Conservation, UK) and an editor of Studies in Conservation, an international peer-reviewed journal published by the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (IIC). She has extensive research and teaching experience in various countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and the United States. She has also been a collaborator on several European Union Framework Programme (EU FP) research projects. Her main research interests are the assessment and treatment of salt damage in wall paintings and other porous materials, and the diagnosis of environmental causes of deterioration. The latter has been the subject of twelve publications that she has authored since 2003.
