| Message on Egypt
2 February. ICCROM is deeply concerned with the news of looting episodes at the National Museum of Cairo and at other museums and sites, including World Heritage properties. ICCROM commends the efforts made by the staff of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Antiquities and its Secretary General, Mr. Zahi Hawass (recently named State Minister of Antiquities), to protect Egypt's archaeological and historical heritage, with the vital support of the Egyptian people.
The rich cultural heritage of Egypt is unique and of inestimable value to the people of Egypt and the entire world. Its preservation is the concern of everyone. ICCROM remains at the disposal of our Egyptian colleagues for any necessary collaboration in regard to the future conservation of this important heritage of mankind.
