| Message on Egypt's missing cultural objects
15 February. Following an inventory check by the staff at the Egyptian Museum, Dr Zahi Hawass, State Minister of Antiquities of Egypt, publicized this weekend a list of eight objects currently missing from the museum, including the gilded wood statue of Tutankhamun being carried by a goddess.
Dr Hawass also communicated a recent break-in at the De Morgan storage facility in Dahshur. Egyptian law enforcement will be working to investigate these thefts.
ICCROM deeply regrets this unfortunate turn of events, and stands ready to provide any requested cultural heritage-related assistance. We also encourage the international community to be aware of these objects, so as to discourage their illicit traffic.
For more information, please consult the press release of 12 February 2011 on the Supreme Council of Antiquities website.
