Obituary
Paola Rota Rossi Doria
22 June. It is with great sadness that ICCROM has learned of the death of a long-time friend, Paola Rota Rossi Doria of Italy. Paola was a physicist and conservation scientist who was involved in the study of stone and architectural conservation since the 1960s. She was also the former Director of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) Scientific Laboratory of the Istituto per i beni archeologici e monumentali (IBAM) in Lecce, Italy.
Through the decades, she has been a regular collaborator on ICCROM activities. From 1977 to 1983 she lectured on the course on Scientific Principles of Conservation (SPC) on the subjects of porous materials and stone testing. She also lectured on the International Course on Stone Conservation from 1981 to 1997 on the preservation and treatment of stone, stone deterioration, testing methods, and evaluation treatments. In addition to lecturing, Paola collaborated with ICCROM’s Research Training Unit, studying mortars for the repair of ancient masonry and evaluating possible substitutes.
The Director General and the staff of ICCROM would like to extend their condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.
