2012 Earthquake in Emilia-Romagna
25 May. Following the 20 May earthquake in Northern Italy, ICCROM has received numerous messages from organizations and individuals worldwide expressing solidarity to the people of Emilia-Romagna and to those responsible for recovery efforts. We would like to thank those you who have written and inform you that these correspondences are being collected and transmitted to our Italian colleagues.
At present, the region is still experiencing aftershocks and heavy rains, which is continuing to cause considerable damage to cultural heritage. While basic humanitarian aid and the safety of the affected people is the priority, cultural heritage recovery is becoming increasingly important. As we become aware of them, we are listing institutions and links with information. Please check back frequently.
30 May. Yesterday, the region suffered a 5.8 magnitude earthquake and a series of aftershocks that killed 17 people, injured over 350 and added to the thousands of people now homeless. The area is still extremely vulnerable and the continues to see significant damage to cultural heritage.
