In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Java on 27 May 2006 which caused an appalling loss of life and destruction, the Director-General and Staff of ICCROM extend their deepest condolences to the people and government of Indonesia which have been so disastrously affected by the loss of lives.
ICCROM wishes to assure its friends and colleagues in Indonesia that it remains ready to provide assistance to the responsible authorities for any steps that may be taken to protect from damage museum, library and archive collections, as well as heritage sites.

23 May. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador has created an on-line catalogue of stolen works of art. The aim is to encourage cooperation to prevent illicit traffic at an international level.

22 May. The international course on Conservation of Southeast Asian Collections in Storage, co-organized by ICCROM, the National Museum of the Philippines and the University of Santo Tomas, is currently underway in Manila.

18 May. On 12 May, ICCROM held a meeting with high-level officials from the General Directorate for Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to review past and current collaborations and to discuss potential future support for ICCROM's programmes and activities.
