International museum day
19 May. On 18 May, International Museum Day was celebrated all over the world. The event provides an opportunity for museum professionals to meet the public and alert them to the challenges that museums face if they are to be - as in the ICOM definition of museums - 'an institution in the service of society and of its development'. |

Earthquake in China
13 May. In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Sichuan province in China on 12 May 2008, the Director-General and Staff of ICCROM extend their deepest condolences to the government and people of China which have been so disastrously affected by the loss of lives and the destruction of property. ICCROM is ready to offer assistance to our Chinese colleagues and those institutions responsible for protecting the cultural heritage within the affected areas.

Cyclone in Myanmar
5 May. In the aftermath of the devastating cyclone in Myanmar on 3 May 2008 which caused an appalling loss of life and destruction, the Director-General and Staff of ICCROM extend their deepest condolences to the people and government of Myanmar which have been so disastrously affected by the loss of lives.
ICCROM wishes to assure its friends and colleagues in Myanmar that it remains ready to provide assistance to those responsible for protecting cultural heritage.
