Tsunami in the South Pacific Islands of Samoa
30 September. In the aftermath of the recent devastating tsunami in the Samoa islands, the Director-General and Staff of ICCROM extend their deepest condolences to the government and people of the Samoa islands which have been so disastrously affected by the loss of lives and the destruction of property. ICCROM wishes to assure its friends and colleagues in the Samoa islands that it remains ready to provide assistance to those responsible for protecting cultural heritage.

The Director-General of ICCROM, Mr Mounir Bouchenaki, and his staff would like to congratulate Mrs Irina Gueorguieva Bokova for her appointment as Director General of UNESCO. As an institution created by UNESCO, ICCROM looks forward to further enhancing the historical ties with UNESCO aimed at preserving our cultural heritage worldwide. |

In the aftermath of the L'Aquila earthquake, Italy
23 September. The Director-General, Mounir Bouchenaki, participated in a conference on the future of the city of L´Aquila and its surrounding territories hit by an earthquake on 6 April 2009. |

News from the risk management course in Beijing
21 September. Throughout the week, participants carried out exercises in risk management that varied from the identification of specific risks to their description in the Sackler Museum in Beijing. |
