29 March. Edmund P. Pillsbury, Director of the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth from 1980 to 1998 and a major figure on the American art museum scene, died on 25 March, aged 66.

1 March. In the aftermath of the strong earthquake that struck Chile on 27 February, the Director-General and Staff of ICCROM extend their deepest condolences to the government and people of this country who have been disastrously affected by the loss of lives and the destruction of property. ICCROM is ready to offer assistance to our Chilean colleagues and those institutions responsible for protecting the cultural heritage within the affected areas.
