At the 17th Session of the Conference of the Ministers of Culture in the Arab States, held by ALECSO (Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization) in Doha, Qatar on 27 to 28 October 2010, the Council of Ministers arrived at a consensus decision in support of ICCROM's ATHAR programme.

27 October. We are greatly saddened by the sudden death of Andrzej Tomaszewski, renowned professor of built heritage conservation and former Director of ICCROM.

25 October. ICCROM would like to commend the publication of the volume, An Approach to ‘Konservierungswissenschaft’: Projects Realized at the Graduate Programme, Conservation of Art on Paper, Archive and Library Materials, State Academy of Art and Design Stuttgart 2000-2008.

21 October. Anne-Marie Viola from the United States joins ICCROM as an intern in the Archives. She will be with the organization through January 2011.

19 October. ICCROM is collaborating on a workshop on the theme, Cultural Heritage: Conservation and Communication, a Global Challenge (CCULT_COM), to take place at the XIII Borsa Mediterranea del Turismo Archeologico, Paestum, Italy.

14 October. The first three weeks of the pilot course on First Aid to Cultural Heritage in Times of Conflict have been busy with several hands-on exercises and guest lectures.

14 October. ICCROM has offered its patronage to a seminar on 'Risk evaluation for cultural heritage: a necessity or a luxury?', organized by the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, Portugal.

12 October. ICCROM is saddened to learn that Dr Selma Al-Radi, Iraqi archaeologist and conservation researcher at New York University, passed away on 9 October 2010.

12 October . Leila Tumanishvili from Georgia is undertaking a fellowship until December 2010.

8 October. The course on Cultural Heritage Protection in the Asia-Pacific Region: research, analysis and preservation of archaeological sites and remains, concluded yesterday.

7 October. ICCROM is pleased to announce that the Annenberg Foundation has made a generous contribution of € 25,000 to the EPA Fund. The amount raised for the fund has now reached € 2,434,240.
