Earthquake in Spain
13 May. Following the violent earthquake that struck the town of Lorca, Spain on 11 May, the Director-General and staff of ICCROM wish to extend their condolences to the government and people of this country. ICCROM is saddened by the loss of lives and extensive damage to the historic town, and wishes to express its solidarity to those responsible for protecting cultural heritage.

First Aid to Cultural Heritage in Times of Conflict: designing the next course
10 May. From 3 – 5 May, an interdisciplinary group of professionals met at ICCROM to design the programme of the second edition of the International Course on First Aid to Cultural Heritage in Times of Conflict (FAC11), to be held in Rome from 26 September – 28 October 2011. |

Bomb attack in Morocco
3 May. On 29 April a deadly bomb attack took place in Jemaa el-Fna Square in the Medina of Marrakesh, Morocco, a World Heritage Site. Jemaa el-Fna Square is also inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In the wake of the tragic loss of lives and damage to property, the Director-General and Staff of ICCROM extend their deepest condolences to the government and people of Morocco.

Tornadoes in the southern United States
