31 October. Prof Antonino Di Vita, noted archaeologist, former Director of the Italian Archaeological School in Athens, and Member of the Accademia dei Lincei, died in Rome on October 22. |

27 October. Robert M. Organ, former Director of the Conservation Analytical Laboratory (CAL) of the Smithsonian Institution and past ICCROM lecturer and consultant, passed away in his home in Scotland on October 11. |

Earthquake in Turkey
25 October. In the aftermath of the recent devastating earthquake in Turkey, the Director-General and Staff of ICCROM extend their deepest condolences to the Turkish government and people who have been so disastrously affected by the loss of lives and the destruction of property.

International Survey on Museum Storage: the results are in!
21 October. During the three months of the International Survey on Museum Storage, we received an amazing response from museums worldwide: 1490 completed surveys from 136 countries. Special thanks to everyone who took the time to answer the survey. Based on these results, ICCROM is now looking for partnerships and funding to launch a full-scale capacity-building programme focusing on the areas of need identified in this survey. |

13 October. The second week, which focused on institutional response to conflict, opened our eyes to new perspectives. By looking at how the humanitarian sector and militaries operate, we were able to integrate new elements into our "First Aider to Cultural Heritage toolkit". |

10 October. The Ecole du Patrimoine Africain (EPA – School of African Heritage) has published its new information brochure. It was created jointly with ICCROM and presents the school’s mission, objectives, areas of activities, and functions. |

Floods in Southeast Asia
12 October. In view of the floods that are devastating Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Viet Nam, the Director-General and Staff of ICCROM would like to express their deepest condolences to the governments and people of these countries who have been affected by the loss of lives and destruction of property.

Former ICCROM Council Member honoured for lifetime achievements
5 October. In recognition of his career and achievements in the conservation and restoration of built heritage in Mexico, an homage was paid to architect Salvador Díaz-Berrio Fernández last month at the at the National School of Conservation, Restoration and Museography (ENCRyM) in Mexico City. Díaz-Berrio was a member of the ICCROM Council from 1983-1985 and 1988-1997. |

Himalayan earthquake
29 September.
On 18 September an earthquake struck the Himalayan region, killing over 100 people and causing extensive damage to properties. In the wake of this event, ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Risk Preparedness (ICORP) is gathering information on damage to cultural heritage and disseminating updates on its Facebook page. In addition, the Division for Conservation of Heritage Sites, Department of Culture of Bhutan has prepared two short reports on damage to cultural properties in the country. |

New fellow at ICCROM
26 September. Ms Mònica López Prat from Spain has joined ICCROM as a fellow until the end of October. She will be carrying out research on the conservation and restoration of ancient mud plaster sculptures in Uzbekistan. |
