International Training Course on Disaster Risk Management of Cultural Heritage (ITC 2012), Japan
31 March. The Cultural Heritage and Risk Management programme of the Research Center for Disaster Mitigation of Urban Heritage, Ritsumeikan University (Rits-DMUCH) is pleased to announce its 7th International Training Course on Disaster Risk Management of Cultural Heritage. It will be held in Kyoto, Kobe, and Tohoku, Japan from 8 to 22 September 2012. |

Brainstorm on Conservation Science
29 March. From 12 to 13 March, ICCROM held a Brainstorm on the current state and future of conservation science. In anticipation of the ICCROM Forum 2013, the purpose of the Brainstorm was to undertake a preliminary exploration of key issues in conservation science today, scope trends, and identify where evidence could be collected which would aid analysis of these trends. |

Martos Project 2012 - International Workshop on Stone Conservation and Urban regeneration in Spain
28 March. Diadrasis is pleased to announce its second international workshop on Stone Conservation and Urban regeneration for young professionals. The workshop is organized with the consent of the Junta de Andalucía, under the patronage of ICCROM and in collaboration with the University of York, the City of Martos Council Department of Culture, the Asociación para el Desarrollo Rural de la Sierra Sur de Jaén (ADSUR), and the Instituto Cultural de España (IPCE). It will take place from 20 August to 30 September 2012 in Martos, Andalusia, Spain. |

Reducing Risks to Cultural Heritage - International Meeting 2012
23 March. In recent years, ICCROM, the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI), and the Netherlands Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE, formerly ICN) have developed and disseminated the risk management approach for cultural heritage field. This has included six joint training initiatives since 2005. For 2012, they have partnered again to hold an international meeting, which will be open to all those interested in risk management. This meeting is organized by the RCE. |

Round Table on "Climate Change and its Impact on Preservation Management of Archaeological Sites"
23 March. Climate change is the single most significant environmental threat to the planet, and thereby the lives of future generations. However, its importance as a threat to cultural heritage assets is less certain. Consequently, site managers are faced with the challenge of how to respond to this issue, without clear information about the relative significance of its risks. This event attempts to address this issue. |

Saving Haiti’s Heritage
23 March. ICCROM is proud to publicize Richard Kurin’s Saving Haiti's heritage: cultural recovery after the earthquake, published by the Smithsonian Institution. It tells how an international project, which included ICCROM as a partner, formed to capacity-build and work with Haiti’s professional community in order to rescue, recover, safeguard, and help restore Haiti’s cultural heritage in the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake. Obituary
16 March. It is with profound sadness that the staff of ICCROM learns of the death of our friend and former colleague, Herb Stovel. Herb served as the Director of the Heritage Settlements Unit at ICCROM from 1998 until 2004 and was presented with the ICCROM Award at the 27th session of the General Assembly of ICCROM in November of 2011. |

14 March. After much anticipation, the wait is finally over. All RE-ORG guidelines, assessment tools and teaching materials have been translated into Spanish and French and are now accessible online free of charge. Did you know that 60% of museum collections in storage are at serious risk? In response to this, ICCROM and UNESCO have developed a step-by-step methodology to assist small museums in reorganizing their storage and documentation systems. |

Activities of the Director-General
7 March. Dr Stefano De Caro took up his duties as ICCROM Director-General starting January 2012. His activities in these months have largely concentrated on two essential lines of action: firstly, deepening his knowledge of ICCROM as an organization, and secondly, establishing relations with Member States and several main partners. |
