Watch the 36th session of the World Heritage Committee via live streaming
25 June. The 36th session of the World Heritage Committee is taking place in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation, from 24 June to 6 July. For the first time, the proceedings will be broadcast live in English and French. ICCROM, as an advisory body to the World Heritage Convention, has a delegation present led by the Director-General. |

Wood conservation technology course in Oslo, Norway
22 June. The 15th International Course on Wood Conservation Technology (ICWCT12) is currently being held in Oslo, Norway at the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren). |

UNESCO Director-General visits the Ecole du Patrimoine Africain
15 June. The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, visited the Ecole du Patrimoine Africain (EPA - School of African Heritage) on 9 June during an official visit to Benin. EPA, created in 1998 by ICCROM and the University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC), is a regional training organization dedicated to the conservation and promotion of cultural heritage in 26 French, Portuguese and Spanish-speaking sub-Saharan countries. |

The Sharjah Initiative
13 June. Recent social and political upheaval in parts of the Arab region have damaged and threatened cultural heritage resources. Thus, the newly established Sharjah-ICCROM ATHAR Regional Conservation Centre hosted an international symposium on Protection of Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis, the first of its kind in the region. |

Activities of the Director-General
8 June. The month of April began with a mission to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (3-5 April), where the Director-General, Stefano De Caro participated in the inauguration of the annual Sharjah Heritage Days, a carnival dedicated to the local cultural heritage and traditions. |

Technical cards on ancient metal structures and deterioration now available online
7 June. Thirty-five years ago, a unique collection of technical cards on ancient metal structures and deterioration processes was created by the famous French metallurgist, Albert France-Lanord, for the ICCROM course on 'Fundamental Principles of Conservation'. This collection has recently been updated and digitized and is now available online. |

ICCROM signs agreement with Korean Cultural Heritage Administration
30 May. ICCROM is pleased to announce that on 18 May 2012, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) of the Republic of Korea and ICCROM regarding cooperation on the conservation, education, training and research of cultural heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region. |

Reducing Risks to Cultural Heritage - International Meeting 2012
30 May. In recent years, ICCROM, the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI), and the Netherlands Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE, formerly ICN) have developed and disseminated the risk management approach for cultural heritage field. This has included six joint training initiatives since 2005. For 2012, they have partnered again to hold an international meeting, which will be open to all those interested in risk management. This meeting is organized by the RCE. |

2012 Earthquake in Emilia-Romagna
25 May. Following the 20 May earthquake in Northern Italy, ICCROM has received numerous messages from organizations and individuals worldwide expressing solidarity to the people of Emilia-Romagna and to those responsible for recovery efforts. We would like to thank those you who have written and inform you that these correspondences are being collected and transmitted to our Italian colleagues. |

Regional Symposium: Protection of Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis
23 May. Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Sharjah, and in the framework of ICCROM’s ATHAR Programme and the newly-established ATHAR Regional Conservation Centre (Architectural-Archaeological Tangible Heritage in the Arab Region) in Sharjah, a three-day Regional Symposium on the “Protection of Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis” is currently being held at the Centre of Gulf Studies and the American University of Sharjah (AUS). |

Earthquake in Northern Italy
21 May. Yesterday, Northern Italy was struck by a deadly earthquake that caused loss of life and extensive damage to buildings, including significant cultural heritage properties. In this difficult time, ICCROM would like to express its condolences to the people of Emilia-Romagna, who have suffered as a result of this disaster. ICCROM is in contact with designated Italian authorities and has offered its availability in assisting our Italian colleagues and those institutions responsible for protecting cultural heritage within the affected areas. This offer has been noted, and appropriate means of collaboration will be evaluated once inspections of the monuments and sites have been carried out and the situation thoroughly assessed.
