Assessing the impact of climate change on the preservation of archaeological sites
20 November. In April, a roundtable brought together professionals involved in climate prediction modelling and cultural heritage, to assess climate change-induced risks and their relationship to other risks commonly threatening archaeological sites, with the aim of providing practical guidance for site managers. The event was organized by the Initiative for Heritage Conservancy (IHC) in partnership with ICCROM, the University of KENT, the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) and University College London-Qatar (UCL-Qatar). Videos and presentations of the first day are now freely available for streaming. |

ICCROM and ALECSO Sign Memorandum of Understanding
16 November. In order to expand collaboration and improve education and training in cultural heritage conservation, the ATHAR Regional Conservation Centre in Sharjah and the Arab League Educational, Cultural And Scientific Organization (ALECSO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 9 November 2012. |

2013 ICCROM Forum on Conservation Science
15 November. On 2-3 November the first planning meeting was held for the next ICCROM FORUM 2013 which will be on Conservation Science. For this Forum ICCROM has adopted a very different approach to its planning and organization in comparison with past Fora. |

International exchange on archaeology and tourism
14 November. From 15-18 November the XV Borsa Mediterranea del Turismo Archeologico will take place in Salerno, Italy. Held under ICCROM patronage, this international exchange aims to promote archaeology and archaeological destinations as well as cultural dialogue. The event will include the participation of private and public cultural organizations, archaeologists and tourist operators from around the world. |

ATHAR Course on Conservation and Management of Heritage: Sites and Museum Collections
12 November. Under the patronage of H.H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Sharjah, the course on Conservation and Management of Heritage: Sites and Museum Collections began on 11 November. It will continue for four weeks in Sharjah, UAE, and will end with a final week in Doha, Qatar on 13 December.

First Aid to Cultural Heritage in Times of Conflict
7 November. On 26 October, the third edition of the International Course on First Aid to Cultural Heritage in Times of Conflict concluded successfully. Participants received their certificates from the Director-General of ICCROM at a moving farewell ceremony in the presence of representatives of the Italian Red Cross and ICCROM staff.

Hurricane Sandy
5 November. ICCROM would like to express its solidarity to the countries that were recently affected by Hurricane Sandy, including the Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica and the United States. In the wake of such extensive destruction, ICCROM wishes to assure its friends and colleagues in the region that it remains ready to provide assistance to those responsible for protecting cultural heritage.

Obituary
5 November. On 23 October, Boris T. Sizov, physicist, conservator of stone monuments and longstanding contributor to the field of conservation passed away in Moscow following a severe illness.
