Living Heritage Sites: Asian Academy for Heritage Management (AAHM)

The Asian Academy for Heritage Management was established in 2002 by ICCROM and the UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok. Its aim is to provide network support to those education and training institutions in Asia that wish to strengthen their capacity to deliver effective courses and programmes for management of heritage places. One of the most important initiatives has been the development of field schools organized by member institutions.

During 2008–9, ICCROM will continue to support the activities of field schools by providing expert advice, planning support, and teaching.

Currently, ICCROM and UNESCO Bangkok are working with member institutions to transfer more responsibility for coordination and development of programmes to one or more of those institutions.

In 2008–9, ICCROM will continue to support the networking activities of the Asian Academy for Heritage Management in collaboration with the UNESCO Bangkok while coordination changes are taking place.

ICCROM will also promote the idea of extending membership of the academy to institutions dealing with conservation and management of movable objects in the region and develop programmes accordingly.
