Contributing to strategic directions

1. Enhancing the capacity of national cultural heritage institutions in Member States to achieve their goals

  • Increased number of trained and skilled personal at various levels of heritage management and conservation in sub-Saharan Africa by 2009
  • Increased number of projects / activities aimed at conserving and managing heritage taking place in sub-Saharan Africa by 2008 as compared to 2005
  • Number of staff trained in different categories
  • Number of African professionals taking part in research projects
  • Number of professionals taking part in Projets Situés activities
  • Number of professionals taking part in regional projects
  • Number of countries with basic equipment for managing the heritage
  • Number of Regional and national heritage institutions hosting AFRICA 2009 activities
  • Universities taking part in the activities of AFRICA 2009
  • Number of African professionals from the network involved in coordination and as resource persons in the training courses (technical and regional) by 2008

2. Encouraging risk preparedness, preventive conservation, and maintenance strategies in Member States

  • Systematic integration of the issue of preventive conservation, risk preparedness and maintenance strategies into the structure and content of any Built Heritage training activities

3. Promoting integrated approaches to conservation of cultural heritage

  • Numbers and types (and mixture) of different disciplines, heritage fields and cultures represented in AFRICA 2009 activities

  • Presence of issues related to movable and/or intangible heritage in AFRICA 2009 activities

4. Increasing access to information about conservation, for professionals and wider audiences

  • Use of the database on professionals and institutions by at least 100 professionals and 20 national and regional institutions
  • Use of database on heritage places by at least 50 professionals and 15 national and regional institutions
  • One newsletter published and distributed to 300 members of the network each year
    200 network members registered on distribution list of the website
    30 copies of the Course Notes compilations on course topics distributed each year
  • Number of publications on research activities by 2009
