UNESCO-ICCROM course on communication skills and site presentation for the institutional support of cultural institutions

Participants
The main aim was to contribute to efforts of the Iraqi Authorities towards institutional support of cultural institutions and reinforcement of Iraqi national expertise. The specific learning objectives were to:

  • provide insight into the role of communication in the challenging landscape of decisions that the professional community in Iraq will have to take in coming years
  • provide the participants with principles of site presentation to the public so they will be ready when conditions in Iraq become favorable to attracting visitors to archaeological sites.

Activities
The course consisted of interactive, participatory sessions; the experts structured the contents, lectured and facilitated discussions on issues and topics related to communication skills as a basis for the presentation of archaeological sites.

Main achievements
Participants were introduced to the principles required for:

  • understanding the importance and use of communication skills;
  • presenting heritage sites to the public.
