Working groups and themes
The activities of LATAM unfold around five priority areas set up as working groups, chosen and led by institutions and professionals from the region. ICCROM coordinates efforts between the different working groups.
All activities of the LATAM Programme are implemented based on the ability of ICCROM and its LATAM partners (including the five working groups outlined below) to raise the necessary financial resources. Pending the availability of funding, ICCROM also partners with local institutions in the design and implementation of specific training activities.
Education and training: identifies institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean offering courses in cultural heritage conservation in order to promote dialogue and exchange.
Illicit traffic: developing a regional campaign to garner support in the fight against illicit traffic of cultural heritage and raise public awareness.
Measuring performance: based on a survey of existing information within conservation institutions in the region, this group analyses performance indicators for different types of heritage.
Risk management: identifying experts and institions in the area of risk management, and promoting risk methodologies.
Information and documentation: developing a mechanism to improve the spreading of information in the region. It also facilitates translations and publications.
Community involvement: in Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico.
