ICCROM has joined IIC and ICOM-CC in committing to lead transformative action within the cultural heritage sector in response to the climate crisis. Our three organizations will work together to reduce our emissions, while mobilizing an international coalition of sustainability initiatives to help the world reach net zero by 2050.
In a video message released ahead of the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference, Director-General Webber Ndoro said climate action must be embedded in everything we do.
“Our work looks at climate change in two ways: how cultural heritage is affected by it, and how cultural heritage can help us tackle it, for example, by contributing to reduce climate-related disaster risks and to build resilience in communities.”
The joint commitment aligns with ICCROM’s firm belief that cultural heritage is fundamental to all dimensions of sustainable development and exemplifies our continuing mission to serve our Member States by promoting its conservation in all forms, in every region of the world, without leaving anyone behind.
