The ‘Sònraichte’ Project, funded by Museums Galleries Scotland, aims to improve the management, knowledge and accessibility of the Museum nan Eilean Archaeology Collections.
The post holder will focus on the Archaeology collections of the Heritage Service and will be responsible for undertaking a range of collections duties, maintaining the collections management systems, and promoting and raising awareness of the Archaeology collections work to the public through a variety of methods.
The post holder will manage, deliver and co-ordinate their programme of work to ensure it is completed by the project deadline. He/ she will ensure the work is backed up and that at the end of the project collections knowledge is passed onto the Heritage team through training to ensure a longer term benefit to the Heritage Service and thereby also to the public.
The post holder will be part of the Heritage Team and will work closely with core Heritage staff in the execution of their duties and the delivery of their objectives and outputs to ensure that they link and connect to the core programmes and services of Museum nan Eilean and the Comhairle’s Heritage Service.
The postholder will be educated to degree level in Archaeology with experience of working in a collections role within a Museum or Archaeology Department. Knowledge of the processes & procedures in managing archaeological data, keeping records, professional standards and good practice required for Museum and/or Archaeological Collections Management and Care are all essential. The postholder should also be skilled in Object Handling and Care, have experience of working with the public and must have excellent verbal, communication and interpersonal skills, and hold a current driving licence.
Appointment to the post is fixed term for 1 year.
Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of grade.
