Research & Restoration: painted metal objects

Cristina Scarrone
Italy
Cristina Scarrone, Student of the master degree course in “Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage” with a specialisation in “Ceramics, Glass & Metala” at the Centro Conservazione e Restauro “La Venaria Reale” is currently working on her thesis, which consists in the restoration of two bronze vessels painted with tempera technique, coming from China and dated 1st century B.C.

She is trying to collect information about restoration interventions conducted on painted metal artifacts to understand what are the main methodologies and materials used in these cases.
In particular, she is interested in the operations of consolidation of the pictorial film and cleaning of the metal surface and pictorial film, which has often been penetrated and covered by corrosion products.
She would be very grateful if someone would share their experience and/or share some literature on this topic.

In addition, for those interested, she has prepared a survey so that you can let her know about any restoration work you have done. Check the link, it will take approximately 20 minutes.
