World Heritage site managers gather in Riyadh to brainstorm for future heritage management

Under the framework of the extended 45th session of the World Heritage Committee and following the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention celebrated in November 2022, the 5th World Heritage Site Managers’ Forum brings together World Heritage site managers to discuss challenges and opportunities in managing World Heritage for the next 50 years.  

Government of Australia pledges $510,000 AUD for joint Capacity Development Project on Climate Action for World Heritage to be implemented by UNESCO, ICCROM, ICOMOS and IUCN

The Australian Government has generously committed $510,000 AUD to the World Heritage Leadership programme to support the first phase of this project, which will be implemented over the next 15 months.

ICCROM’s FAR programme joins forces with UNESCO and ICOMOS to develop capacities for heritage professionals in Ukraine

From 26 to 30 July 2023, UNESCO, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, ICCROM and ICOMOS, will train 25 heritage professionals, including World Heritage site managers, from eight at-risk regions across Ukraine on emergency preparedness, risk reduction and first aid to cultural heritage. The project is supported by the UNESCO/Japan Funds-in-Trust. 

NRICH cohosts an International Symposium with ICCROM

The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (NRICH, headed by Director General Kim Yeon-soo) of the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA), together with the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM, headed by Director-General Webber Ndoro), will cohost the international symposium titled “World Archaeology: Ancient Cities and Royal Capitals” in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on 20 July 2023.  

MoU signed between NRICH (Republic of Korea) and ICCROM for the conservation and management of heritage

On 15 June, at ICCROM headquarters in Rome, Italy, ICCROM signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Republic of Korea National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (NRICH, Director General Kim Yeonsoo), under the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA), for the conservation and management of cultural and natural heritage.

4th Arab Forum for Cultural Heritage concludes with set of recommendations 

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, the 4th Arab Forum for Cultural Heritage (2023) concluded its activities in Sharjah, UAE. The three-day forum, organized by the Regional Office for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage (ICCROM-Sharjah), in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, was held at ICCROM-Sharjah under the title “Culture of Built Environment (Omran) and Resilience of Heritage.”

Course on built heritage conservation concludes with ceremony in Rome

On Thursday, 1 June, CBH 2023 participants presented their final proposal for conserving Rome's Santa Sabina archaeological area, the study and sampling of which has been a significant component of the course's exercises. They presented their findings and recommendations to students from Glenn Boornazian's concurrent summer school course, providing an excellent opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange. Following the presentations, we gathered with Rome's diplomatic community for a closing ceremony to celebrate the course participants and wish them farewell as they head home to put their skills into action.  

4th Arab Forum for Cultural Heritage begins in Sharjah  

29 May 2023 - Rome (Italy): Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, the 4th Arab Forum for Cultural Heritage (2023) launched its activities, today, in Sharjah, UAE.  

The three-day forum, organized by the Regional Office for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage (ICCROM-Sharjah), in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, will be held from 29 May to 1 June 2023 at ICCROM-Sharjah.

The 5th World Heritage Site Managers’ Forum to be hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the National Committee and the Heritage Commission alongside the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, ICCROM and IUCN, in close partnership with ICOMOS, will be hosting the 5th edition of the World Heritage Site Managers Forum (WHSMF23) which will be organized in conjunction to the extended 45th session of the World Heritage Committee, with the theme selected for the Forum as “Managing World Heritage for the Next 50 Years.”
