Have you run a project that helps the public appreciate and understand conservation?

Apply, or nominate others, for our 2024 Keck Award
Virtual and/or in-person projects are eligible

Communicating to the public everything that is involved in the art and science of conservation has always been a skill in itself. We believe that promoting public understanding, storytelling and appreciation of conservation are becoming increasingly important ways to recognise, inspire, and contextualise the work of our profession.

For IIC's 2024 Keck Award, work extending public understanding of the conservation of artistic and historic works and projects that reach diverse and underrepresented audiences are particularly welcomed as well as initiatives that increase social impact and inspire creative engagement.

The Award has been given since 1994, generously endowed by Caroline and Sheldon Keck to commemorate their distinguished careers in conservation.

We invite you to nominate projects run by you or your institution - or pass this information along to those whose work you have admired. We welcome both well conceived small projects and those from larger institutions.

Generous prize - to support your future work

The award is a certificate of recognition and a prize of £2500, which will be presented online at the next biennial IIC Lima Congress  on 23-27 September 2024. IIC will also be promoting the prizewinning work across our website and social media.

Past winners

Many of our previous winners have blended on and offline outreach but we also encourage applications from all-virtual projects - you can find out more about past winners here. The 2022 recipient of the Keck Award, Game Jam promoted game development, education, restoration and culture, highlighting the use of digital technology and playful products as an important tool for preventive conservation and risk management in paleontological, archaeological and historical heritage.

Simple application process

If you would like to propose a project, whether your own work, institution or organisation, or the work of others, please send your nomination to the IIC Office, iic@iiconservation.org to arrive by Friday 10 May 2024 (5pm BST/UK Time).

Full details here - but initially all we need is 500 words, a couple of pictures - and links to a website and/or film where available.

We hope you will consider either entering for the award yourself - or help us spread the word in your own country and/or networks, so that we can discover and promote the most imaginative and influential projects for this year's Keck Award.
